Buffalo ’66 is writer/director Vincent Gallo s semi-autobiographical full-length motion picture debut. Vincent Gallo & Christina Ricci star in the lead roles & a distinguished supporting cast includes Mickey Rourke, Rosanna Arquette & Anjelica Huston. Gallo also composed & performed much of the music for the film. After serving a jail term for a crime he did not commit, Billy Brown, is determined to have his revenge on those he deems responsible. Whilst desperately searching for somewhere to relieve himself, he kidnaps a dance class student called Layla & forces her to pretend to be his wife. This film is as much comedy as it is drama; Billys scornful attitude & his contemptuous memories are often offset by amusing dialogue & ironic, almost black, humour. Buffalo 66 is an indie feature with a dirty, minimalist look & boasts a rather faded & discoloured visual style, thanks to the use of 35mm & 16mm reversal film stock. Posters Of Buffalo 66

A prime example of 1990s independent film-making, Buffalo 66 is a little-known gem of a film which, once found, will be cherished. Vincent Gallo, the New York Bohemian extraordinaire, co-wrote the semi-autobiographical script. He also directed & starred in this dark comedy and, as if that wasnt enough, contributed to the mind-blowing soundtrack. By employing alternative filming techniques for what is, in essence, a traditional boy-meets-girl story, Gallo has created an indie movie with genuine mainstream appeal. A handheld camera & the flashback sequences use beautiful grainy cine film & 70s Polaroids, while as a whole the tone of the piece shifts between lavish theatrical images & reality TV. However, out of the many mesmerising scenes within the film, it is the isolated performances that offer the most heartfelt beauty, notably Cristina Riccis solo light tap dance & Gazzaras mime to a song actually performed by Gallos father in the distant past. An all-star cast also includes Angelica Huston, Ben Gazzara & Mickey Rourke. Buffalo 66 is an overlooked modern classic just waiting to be discovered.

Christina Ricci is an American actress known for her appearance in the The Addams Family films & Sleepy Hollow, as well as acting in independent films such as Buffalo 66, Prozac Nation & The Opposite of Sex. She has also begun producing films. She has reportedly suffered from an eating disorder & has engaged in self mutilation. She made her cinematic debut at the age of 9 alongside Cher, Bob Hoskins & Winona Ryder in Mermaids. She is currently dating actor Adam Goldberg.
