Animatrix, The Double Pack
Consumer DVD Review [Top] This is a disappointing DVD boxset. But not in the way youre thinking. From the first sequence of Final Flight of the Osiris through to the final snippets in The making of..., you realise that not only is there a lot more freedom when making 9 minutes of film, this is also what the Matrix concept is suited to. Quite honestly, this shows up Reloaded to be what it really was. Overly long, pretentious, & rushed. It lacked so many of the little touchs that are just cramed into every short episode on this disc. It wasnt cohesive. Its just disappointing that the new live action film doesnt come close to this standard... But this DVD is where the Matrix comes to life. Its not hurt by some cutting edge FX , great score, & strong pacing. Nor by its A & B list Anime directors. In fact, I think this is perhaps the Wachowskis finest hour. The second disc in this set is the soundtrack to the movie. Once again, I was expecting this to be the standard add-on material that often accompanies these boxsets. Its not. Many of the tracks are excellent, with only the occasional flaw in an otherwise stunning album. However, its quite serious House & Drum & Bass music. If thats not your cupotea, then stick with £12.00 single disc edition. I loved it. Perhaps you will too. Biography: Keanu Reeves [Top] Keanu Charles Reeves is a Hollywood film actor. Although currently working in the United States, Reeves is a Canadian citizen & an avid ice hockey player/fan who was his High School teams MVP. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, his first name means cool breeze over the mountains in Hawaiian. His father is Asian American of Chinese & Hawaiian descent & his mother is English. Reeves gained the notice of the critics in 1986 s Rivers Edge, but his first major film role was in 1986, in the hockey movie Youngblood, starring Rob Lowe. Reevess first popularly successful film was Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, in 1989. Indeed & perhaps unfortunately for Reeves, much of his subsequent portrayal in the press has been influenced by his comically airheaded character Ted in that film. Despite the fact that his acting has frequently been derided as wooden, Reeves has become a major box-office draw & several of his films have become extremely popular. Speed, released in 1994, was a tremendous success for Reeves, surpassed in 1999 by the sci-fi hit The Matrix.
