Consumer DVD Review [Top] Down The offical write-up is as follows: New York, the city that never sleeps. But something has just woken up.
When the express lifts in the 102-story Millenium building begins to malfunction, the management sends in a mechanic to solve the problem but not eveyone is happy about it - especially the lift. After two gruesome accidetns, both the media & the police decend upon the building. A beautiful reporter hunting for a juicy story begins to shadow the mechanic & the police, who have launched a full scale investigation. When several of New Yorks finest are killed, the government seals of the building. Now its up to the mechanic & the reporter to unravel the lethal mystery together, & stay alive as the death toll continues to rise. The unpredictable & bloodthirsty enemy is determined to kill anyone searching for the dark secret lurking in the belly of the building. It is a enemy that must be feared - an enemy that must be taken...down. Ignoring the spelling mistakes & the few misleading bits in the write-up, I felt this was a fairly enjoyable film. Not a serious suggestion for a horror movie, the same sorta thing as Deep Rising, also take note that this film was filmed in 2001, & I noticed one shot which actually had the Twin Towers missing, while in other shots they were there, which may explain the near three years it took to come out on DVD, as well as the subject of terrorists. There are some cliches it sets up, but deliberately misleads you into thinking its actually gonna go the full mile with them, but enjoyable doesnt, poking fun at them. The first three quarters of the film were good, though it got a little strange in the final quarter. In the cast are James Marshall & Eric Thal as two elevator mechanics, & Naomi Watts as the plucky young reporter. Uncredited on the cover are oldschool actors Micheal Ironside & Ron Perlman The main feature of the film that I quibble with is the Millenium Buildings status, supposedly more famous then the World Trade Center, Empire State or most other big buildings in America... But overall, the film is worthwil getting if you see it at a good price & if youre into a wide range of horror films. The CGI is fairly well done, blending the fake Millenium Building both onto an existing New York building & onto a sckyline... However, I feel it could have been titled better. An amusing note, the use of Aerosmiths Love in an elevator with the main lyrics toned out to a near echo... Biography: James Marshall [Top]
Biography: Naomi Watts [Top] Naomi Watts is an English -born Australian actress & producer. Watts was born in Shoreham-by-Sea, Kent, England, where she lived until the age of eight. Her parents, Peter & Myfanwy Watts had separated when she was four years old & when she was seven her father died. Following her fathers death, her mother relocated the family to the town of Llangefni, in Northern Wales, where they lived with Naomis grandparents, Hugh & Nikki Roberts, although her mother occasionally moved the family around Wales & England, usually to follow boyfriends, but she always ended up returning to Llangefni. She lived there until she was 14. Then, during a trip to Australia, her mother became convinced that there was the land of opportunities & moved the family to Sydney in 1982. Her grandmother, Nikki, was Australian, which made it easier to obtain the documentation necessary, since Naomi & her family were entitled to Australian citizenship.
