Background Information: Full Metal Panic
[Top]
Full Metal Panic! is the name of an anime series which originally aired in 2002. It is based on a graphic novel of the same title & was produced by GONZO Digimation. There also exists a manga, which was serialized in Newtype. Different parts of the manga form the basis for the Full Metal Panic anime & the sequel, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. The manga is published in English by ADV Manga. The anime is a combination of near-futuristic combat & teen antics & relationships. Despite the similar name, it has no relation to the anime & manga series Full Metal Alchemist. The series is set in a post-modern, parallel world where the Cold War has yet to end & the KGB & other secret governmental agencies are running rampant. It follows the events of Sagara Sōsuke, an unduly disciplined member of Mithril & Chidori Kaname, the schoolgirl whom he was assigned to protect. Chidori is considered to be one of the Whispered; that is, she possesses a inherent understanding of advanced Black Technology.

This was the first anime Id ever bought, & although I wasnt too sure about it when I saw it the first time, I can honestly say its grown on me.

Before I bought this DVD Id been reading manga instead of watching animations, & this series was the first I read that I found an anime for. The manga was quite a lot different, because although it follows much the same plot, with main themes, it also adds a lot & takes away things the anime has. The characters also seemed a bit different, but there none the less likeable & they make the show really fun to watch.

I gotta say I liked the second set a lot more than the first one , but you really cant buy that without getting this one, because the story evolves so much in these four episodes.

I reckon if youve never seen FMP befotre you should get something cheaper like the manga first, because youll probably need to get both DVDs to like it, & thatll be a lot to spend, after which you may not like it... so spend less first & you may save the money youd have spent.
