Biography: Andy Lau [Top] Andy Lau Tak-Wah is a Hong Kong popstar & a movie actor, first made famous by the TV series The Yangs Saga. He has since appeared in more than 100 films & has a huge fan base throughout Asia with the success of both his onscreen performance & his musical career. Andy Lau is best known for his recurring roles as the King of Gamblers. Lau is known to some more for his good looks than for his strengths of acting, though he has answered his critics since the turn of the century in a series of critical movies, especially those directed by Johnnie To. His first major acting prizes came with A Fighters Blue & Running Out of Time in 2000. In 2004 he won the prestigious Golden Horse Award for his performance in Infernal Affairs 3. He is one of the most successful Chinese music celebrities, with an extensive list of Cantonese & Mandarin hits to his credit. His first music contract came in 1985, but his singing career reached stellar status in 1990 with the release of the album entitled Would it be possible? & his subsequent releases only solidified his status as a highly marketable singer.

Mui had one elder sister & two brothers. Her father died when she was young & when she was eight, her mother moved in with another man, hoping he would look after her children. However, Mui & her family later discovered he was already married. Mui told a local magazine that her mother became very temperamental from that point & always took it out on them. Mui claimed to have been desperate to get away from her family. From the early 1980s to 2003, she was excellent friends with Leslie Cheung, another Hong Kong pop star, who committed suicide in April 2003. She was very devastated by his death. Anita Mui announced in early September 2003 that she had cervical cancer & was undergoing treatment. 50. She was 40 & single. Her sister, Ann Mui, also a Hong Kong singer, died of cancer in 2000. Well-known in Chinese communities the world over, Mui shot to stardom after winning the first New Talent Singing Contest in 1982, beating over 3,000 contestants.
