Background Information: The Matrix
[Top]
The Matrix is a film first released in the USA on March 31, 1999, written & directed by the Wachowski brothers. It stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss & Hugo Weaving. The story is about a young computer hacker who learns about the true nature of his reality & gets involved with a band of rebels fighting against its masters, sentient computer programs called agents. The Matrix earned $171 million in the US & $456 million worldwide. The movies unexpected success & cult following led to the next two films, a computer/video game & a collection of nine animated shorts. It is important to note that the Wachowskis claim to have always intended to make a trilogy & it was only after doing well that they were allowed to make the next two films, although it was some number of years & several iterations of wholly different scripts before the second & third movies were approved. All of the ideas were written by the Wachowski brothers, although five of the nine animated shorts count among their authors noted figures from the world of Japanese animation. Posters Of The Matrix

Consumer DVD Review
[Top]
The Matrix is possibly the most dramatic change in cinematical history, with respect to the technological advancements that have been achieved in the making of the movie. The DVD version of the film in particular highlights this beautifully, as the quality is persistantly sharp; with some great camera effects: a green tint when inside The Matrix, & blue for the real world.

This boxset contains collectors items from the movie, that are almost invaluable to the avid fan. The 35mm film reel looks astonishing on a wall - if you loved the film, that is.

The film has taken some criticism, however, for its over-complicated plot, but in my opinion, this only adds to the re-watch value. The Matrix Revisited, gives in-depth insight as to what the makers were intending, & to the extent they achieved. This perhaps should have been included with the original release of the DVD, but it is included in this set, so there are no worries here.

The most striking element of the film are the references to well-received ideas, such as the Bible, & indicates the natural stereotypical human inclination to retain these sort of beliefs. The Matrix offers an alternative view, by suggesting that in actual fact, there could actually be a matrix, & we are indeed all slaves, & we wouldnt know a thing about it.

Overall, if you want a high-action, philosophical, complex story movie, look no further; it has it all. If The Matrix is true, I want to get out of it!

Biography: Keanu Reeves
[Top]
Keanu Charles Reeves is a Hollywood film actor. Although currently working in the United States, Reeves is a Canadian citizen & an avid ice hockey player/fan who was his High School teams MVP. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, his first name means cool breeze over the mountains in Hawaiian. His father is Asian American of Chinese & Hawaiian descent & his mother is English. Reeves gained the notice of the critics in 1986 s Rivers Edge, but his first major film role was in 1986, in the hockey movie Youngblood, starring Rob Lowe. Reevess first popularly successful film was Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, in 1989. Indeed & perhaps unfortunately for Reeves, much of his subsequent portrayal in the press has been influenced by his comically airheaded character Ted in that film. Despite the fact that his acting has frequently been derided as wooden, Reeves has become a major box-office draw & several of his films have become extremely popular. Speed, released in 1994, was a tremendous success for Reeves, surpassed in 1999 by the sci-fi hit The Matrix. Posters Of Keanu Reeves

Laurence Fishburne is a notable United States movie actor. Laurence Fishburne started acting at the age of 12, getting his big break portraying Joshua Hall on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live in 1973. However, it was his 1992 role in Deep Cover that gained him lasting recognition as an outstanding actor. That same year, Fishburne won a Tony Award for his stage performance in August Wilson s Two Trains Running, which was followed by an Oscar nomination one year later for his impersonation of Ike Turner in Whats Love Got to Do With It?. Also in 1992 he received an Emmy Award for an episode of the short-lived TV series Tribeca. Nowadays Fishburne is best known for his role as Morpheus, the hacker-mentor of Neo in the blockbuster science fiction movie series The Matrix. Fishburne married actress Hajna O Moss in 1985 & had two children with her, a son named Langston & a daughter named Montana ; however, the couple got divorced during the 1990s & on September 20, 2002, Fishburne married another actress, Gina Torres. Biography: Andy Wachowski
[Top]
Larry Wachowski & Andy Wachowski are film directors. Born & raised in Chicago, the Wachowskis jokingly claim to have begun their collaboration as toddlers. Both dropped out of college to pursue show business & both overcame some major hurdles on their way to success. Before entering show business, they ran a carpentry business in Chicago while creating comic books in their free time. Since their hit with The Matrix, studios are clamoring for whatever else they have ever worked on. Trimark has bought an unproduced script they wrote years ago, Carnivore, a creepy tale about a boarding house whose residents keep disappearing. The brothers will executive-produce it, while horror veteran George A Romero will likely direct. The brothers admit to a love for telling multipart stories. Because we grew up on comic books & the Tolkien trilogy, one of the things were interested in is bringing serial fiction to cinema, Larry explains. Posters Of The Matrix
