Background Information: Metallica
[Top]
Metallica is an American heavy metal band active from the 1980s to the 2000s. After building a loyal following through its role in the development of thrash metal in the 1980s, Metallica successfully broadened its audience in the early 1990s. Accordingly, the band stood as the most commercially visible example of the metal genre for most of that decade. However, Metallicas vastly increased commercial success was accompanied by stylistic changes that fostered accusations of selling out by some long-time fans. In 2003 Metallica released St. Anger, a collection of the most aggressive music theyd written in a decade, to deeply divided critical reviews & comparatively mediocre sales figures. Nevertheless, extensive & successful tours throughout 2003 & 2004 reinforced the bands reputation as a top-notch live act. Metallica was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981 by drummer & former tennis prodigy Lars Ulrich & guitarist & vocalist James Hetfield, who met after each had separately placed classified advertisements in the American publication The Recycler. This dvd is an excellent package with songs from the old albums & greatlive versions of aint my bitch & king nothing. If you are worried aboutthe lack of kill em all, puppets or justice tracks then take note that theperformance of one, fade to black, creeping death & the meledy areexcellent.Only real dissappointment was the short version of master ofpuppets but this is forgetten as once the song is over & the stage fallsapart in a brilliant set piece diaster. The band play at their best & ihighly recommend this for any metallica fan.
Biography: James Hetfield
[Top]
James Hetfield is co-founder, lead singer & rhythm guitarist for the band Metallica, with which he is closely identified; indeed, whenever describing Metallica, most people base their comments & definitions upon Hetfield & his distinctive vocal stylings & muscular, high-energy musicianship. Hetfield was born on the 3rd of August, 1963, in Downey, Los Angeles County, California. Many aspects of his childhood were difficult. His father & mother were devout & strict adherents to Christian Science & accordingly, much of his young life revolved around religion. In accordance with their beliefs, Hetfields parents strongly disapproved of medicine & remained vigilant in their faith even as his mother began to die of cancer. Her death & his subsequently turbulent relationship with religion, are both recurring subjects which have been the focal point of many of Metallicas lyrics. Hetfield was 9 years old when he first took piano lessons, before taking on his brother Davids drums & finally picking up a guitar in his pre-teens. Posters Of Metallica
