Brum - Stunt Bike Rescue
Background Information: Brum [Top] Brum is the name of a childrens TV programme about the adventures of a car of the same name. It is produced by Ragdoll Productions & was first broadcast in 1991 & has been shown in a variety of countries around the world since then. It is directed & written by Tom Poole & is produced by Anne Wood. It was initially narrated by Toyah Willcox. Brum is a common colloquial name for Birmingham & its inhabitants are known as Brummies. Recent series have undergone a change of format & make no specific mention of Birmingham, calling it the Big Town, but Brum is still filmed there & many Birmingham streets & landmarks can be seen in each episode.
Editorial DVD Review [Top] Quietly tucked away in a car-collection garage, Brum is only conspicuous by his size. When the owner turns his back at the start of the day however, Brum blazes into action; ready to fight crime & do good deeds in the big town. TV has tried lots of ideas with cars that think for themselves, but never managed to convey the charm that this series offers. Whether its thwarting the escape of some naughty bank robbers, or saving a newlywed bride who inadvertently steps on a runaway skateboard, the little car with the big heart is always the perfect gentleman. Each episode sets up a crime to solve or dilemma to resolve, & by way of handy ramps & elevators, Brum is cheerily applauded & waved at by the towns residents. Every so often theres an outburst of song that will unite good guys & bad guys alike, & then theres always the sing-along at the end to look forward to. Warning to parents: expect a look of abject disappointment on the face of the tot who discovers their toy cars wont do any of the tricks on TV.
