Dumbo
Background Information: Dumbo [Top] Dumbo is an animated film, produced by Walt Disney. The main character is Jumbo Jr. an anthropomorphic elephant who is cruelly nicknamed Dumbo. He is ridiculed for his big ears, but it turns out that he is capable of flying by using them as wings. His only friend is the mouse Timothy. None of the voice actors for Dumbo received screen credit, but Timothy Mouse who befriended even Dumbo in his darkest days & was instrumental in helping him find greatness within himself, was voiced by Edward Brophy, who has no other known voice credits or other toon connection. Voice actors include the perennial Sterling Holloway in a cameo role as Mr. Stork & Cliff Edwards, better known as the voice of Jiminy Cricket, as Jim Crow, the ringleader of a raucous crowd of crows. When Timothy Q Mouse falls into a vat of hooch, the Pink Elephants on Parade drunk sequence that follows is quite hallucinatory, surreal & widely considered a classic of animation. Leonard Maltin, the author of the book The Disney Films, has called Dumbo his favorite Disney film of all time. Posters Of DumboEditorial DVD Review [Top] A Disney classic that actually is a classic, Dumbo should be part of your video collection whether or not you have children. The storytelling was never as lean as here, the songs rarely as haunting , the characters rarely so well-defined. The film pits the cold, cruel, heartless world that cant accept abnormality against a plucky, & mute, hero. Jumbo Jr is ostracised from the circus pack shortly after his delivery by the stork because of his big ears. His mother sticks up for him & is shackled. Hes jeered by children , used by the circus folk & demoted to appearing with the clowns. Only the decent Timothy Q. Mouse looks out for the little guy. Concerns about the un-PC Jim Crow crows, who mock Dumbo with the wonderful When I See an Elephant Fly, should be moderated by remembering that the crows are the only social group in the film who act kindly to the little outcast. If you dont mist up during the Baby Mine scene, you should be legally pronounced dead.
