Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends is an animated childrens television series which debuted in 1984. The series was based on The Railway Series, a series of books created by the Reverend W,V. Awdry. The books, which told of the adventures of a group of living, talking trains, who lived on the fictional Island of Sodor & were based on stories which Awdry told his son Christopher to entertain him during Christophers recovery from measles. During the 1970s, the television rights were sold to Britt Allcroft & she began producing the series. Many of the stories are based on true events Awdry experienced in his life about railways. In 1987, the Rev W Awdry & his brother George published The Island of Sodor, a book detailing the full history of the railways of Sodor. Characters marked with a * appeared in the TV series only. Many of the characters are based on actual British locomotives & vehicles from the late 19th century onwards. Coaches. Jack the Front Loader returns for the long awaited finale of Jack Jumps In. Richard Starkey, MBE, known by his stage name Ringo Starr, is a popular British musician, best known as drummer for The Beatles. Ringo is known for his reliable, steady drumming & innovative fills. His everyman personality made him an easy fit with the other Beatles. He was the oldest member of the band & the last one to join the now familiar Fab Four lineup. Starr married Maureen Cox in 1965 & they had three children, Zak, Jason & Lee. The couple divorced in 1975 ; & in 1981 Starr married actress Barbara Bach, most famous for her role as Major Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me. // Starrs parents split up when he was young; & his mother re-married. He was raised in the working class Dingle area of Liverpool. He went through two serious illnesses as a child & spent a total of three years in hospital, thereby falling considerably behind in school; after his last visit to the hospital, at age 15, he could barely read & write.
