Background Information: Nevada [Top] Nevada is a historical novel about the life of a man named Meade Slaughter, who, starting out as a penniless orphan, works his way up to owner of one of the largest casinos in the state. The book covers the rise of Nevada as a playground for adults & intertwines a story of sex, greed, avarice, sex, drug addiction, sex, murder, sex & gambling. The story covers a great deal of history including the building of various casinos by some of the members of various criminal organizations; the south vs. north rivalry; the hotel fires in Las Vegas; how some casinos failed & were left partially finished & stories of some of the more famous residents including Howard Hughes & Benjamin Bugsy Siegel. The book was written by Clint McCullough & was published in 1986. It is his first novel.
Biography: Anne Jeffreys [Top] Anne Jeffreys is an American actress. Born Anne Carmichael, she was trained at a young age under her mothers management & entered the entertainment industry by signing with the John Robert Powers agency as a junior model. She got her first role in the musical Fun for the Money. This led to her first movie role in I Married an Angel, starring Nelson Eddy & Jeanette MacDonald. She starred in several movies in the 40s, for example in the musical Step Lively opposite Frank Sinatra. She failed to make a real impact however & her career faltered. She instead focused on her stage career, starring in productions such as the Broadway musical My Romance. She married actor Robert Sterling in 1951 & they were both cast in the 1953 sitcom Topper. After a semi-retirement in the 1960s, she returned to star in television, appearing in the soap operas Bright Promise & General Hospital. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in The Delphi Bureau. She also appeared in Baywatch as David Hasselhoff s mother. Her most recent role was in the TV drama Port Charles.

His other notable films were generally thrillers & westerns. With his imposing physical presence & rumbling voice, he was particularly well-suited to play menacing figures, but he was quite successful in tempering this with an underlying aspect of raw intelligence. A 1949 drug conviction & short prison sentence for marijuana posession sidetracked his career for a few years in the early 1950s. He also had several noteworthy television appearances. Mitchum was a workman & professional boxer before going to Hollywood in 1943. The Story of G,I. Joe -- Oscar nomination.
