A briskly paced hybrid of Boogie Nights & Goodfellas, Blow chronicles the three-decade rise & fall of George Jung , a normal American kid who makes a personal vow against poverty, builds a marijuana empire in the 1960s, multiplies his fortune with the Colombian MedellĂ­n cocaine cartel, & blows it all with a series of police busts culminating in one final, long-term jail sentence. Your dads a loser, says this absentee father to his estranged but beloved daughter, & hes right: Blow is the story of a nice guy who made wrong choices all his life, almost single-handedly created the American cocaine trade & got exactly what he deserved. Directed by Ted Demme, the film is vibrantly entertaining, painstakingly authentic... & utterly aimless in terms of overall purpose. We cant sympathise with Jungs meteoric rise to wealth & the wild life, & Demme isnt suggesting that we should idolise a drug dealer. So what, exactly, is the point of Blow? Simply, it seems, to present Jungs story as the epitome of the coke-driven glory days, & to suggest, ever so subtly, that Jung isnt such a bad guy, after all. Anyone curious about his lifestyle will find this film amazing, & theres plenty of humour mixed with the constant threat of violence & paranoid anxiety. Demme has also populated the film with a fantastic supporting cast , & this is certainly a compelling look at the other side of Traffic. Still, one wishes that Blow had a more viable reason for being: like a wild party, it leaves you with a hangover & a vague feeling of regret.

He is able to play a wide variety of roles, from comedy to serious drama, to action & atmospheric thrillers. He is also noted for his regular appearances in the films of director Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood & Sleepy Hollow as well as the upcoming Charlie & the Chocolate Factory & The Corpse Bride. Johnny also directed & starred in The Brave demonstrating his sympathy for the plight of Native Americans. Penelope Cruz Sánchez, nicknamed simply Pe, is a Spanish actress. Born in Madrid, Spain, Cruz was a dancer as a child & young teen & actually dropped out of high school to pursue dancing at the National Conservatory of Madrid & theatre at Cristina Rotas School in New York. Her parents named her after a song by Joan Manuel Serrat. She first achieved fame when she appeared in the video clip La fuerza del destino for the Spanish synth-pop group Mecano. She then started a relationship with Nacho Cano, a member of the group, which lasted for several years. She also was a TV presenter for the teen-oriented program La Quinta Marcha, in collaboration with Jesús Vázquez. Cruzs first major films were Jamón, Jamón & the more widely known Belle Époque, a film which won an Academy Award for Foreign Language Film. She also appeared with Matt Damon in All The Pretty Horses. In 1999 she appeared in Pedro Almodóvar s Todo sobre mi madre which won an Academy Award for Foreign Language Film.
