Demolition Man
Background Information: Demolition Man [Top] Demolition Man is an American motion picture released on Friday, October 8, 1993. It was directed by Marco Brambilla, written by Peter M Lenkov & Robert Reneau & produced by Howard Kazanjian. The film is a story about two men, one an evil criminal & another a policeman. Although the initial scenes are set in a anarchic, dystopian version of Los Angeles, circa 1997, most of the film is set in the year 2032, where Southern California has become a peaceful paradise. Simon Phoenix, has been released from his confinement in a cryoprison, which is a huge freezing device & soon embarks on a reign of terror throughout the city of San Angeles. Because cops no longer know how to deal with ultraviolent criminals like Phoenix, supercop John Spartan is sprung from the cryoprison for the purpose of apprehending Phoenix. Spartan had been imprisoned on trumped-up charges for underestimating Phoenixs evil genius in the first scene; numerous hostages had died as a result & Spartan became the scapegoat. Sandra Bullock plays Spartans kooky sidekick, in a scene-stealing performance. Posters Of Demolition ManEditorial DVD Review [Top] Searching for new directions, Sylvester Stallone starred in this farcical, 1993 SF piece about an ex-cop freed from 36 years of forced hibernation to help catch a criminal who released himself from a similar incarceration. The futuristic story finds Los Angeles a sea of Taco Bells & enforced peace & within that satiric overview Stallones character becomes a gun-toting fish out of water. The film plays like a live-action cartoon & while there is nothing particularly wrong with that, Demolition Man is a rather flat experience. The irony of a peaceable society that both requires & despises its bloody saviours has been captured far more profoundly in movies like Dirty Harry. Sandra Bullock costars.
Biography: Sylvester Stallone [Top] Michael Sylvester Enzio Stallone, usually known as simply Sylvester Stallone, is an American film actor, director, producer & screenwriter. He achieved his greatest successes in a number of action films, notably the Rambo & Rocky series, in both of which he played a largely monosyllabic hero. Stallone was born in New York City & attended high school in Silver Spring, Maryland, at Montgomery Blair High School. He studied drama at the University of Miami, after which he returned to New York & appeared in a few small Off-Broadway plays. His first film roles were very small, including a pornographic film & he did not break through until he starred in Rocky, a film that he wrote & sold with the rider that he would be the lead. Stallone had two Academy Award nominations for Rocky. However, his attempts to expand his range floundered & he was forced to return to the Rocky franchise a number of times to pay for the flops. He tried his hand at directing as well as writing with Rocky II, III & IV & directed & co-wrote the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, Staying Alive.
