Killjoy
Background Information: Killjoy [Top]
Consumer DVD Review [Top] Look at the video cover. It looks interesting doesnt it? Well for a fan of horror movies such as myself it did. Unfortunately that is about the only good thing this movie has to offer. Low budget films are usually trashy but likeable, especially in the horror genre. But this went even further & I think it had no budget at all!
Its about a geeky boy who is love with a girl, who just happens to be the girlfriend of the toughest gang leader this side of Brooklyn. The gang beats him up & so he decides to call on the services of Killjoy, a killer clown-like demon to take care of them for him. The first part of the movie is like Boyz in the Hood & then as it progresses, we get a horror movie which is a cross between A Nightmare on Elm Street & Killer Klowns From Outer Space. The actors are terrible, especially the 3 gang members. Talk about racial stereotyping! This movie was probably solely aimed at the black, urban audience of America. Anyone else would not be able to understand just what the gang are talking about half of the time. And I say gang because I believe real gangs have more than 3 people in. The camera work is awful. For a start it looks like it was filmed with a camcorder. And then the cameraman is terrible, zooming in too many times & plenty of shots not being in focus. The only redeeming factor about this movie is the actual clown whose name is the title of this movie. He gets a bit goofy at times & is hard to take seriously as a killer thanks to his constant laughter, but he has a few funny lines. The make-up job on him is decent too. But thats as far as the half-decent stuff goes. Nothing else about this movie is worth commenting on. Its all so depressing really. The even more depressing thing is that I bought this on DVD ! There is a documentary on it called "The Making of Killjoy" & it includes interviews with the director, cast & crew. The sad thing is that they ALL treat this seriously & think that it is some masterpiece like The Godfather or Schindlers List! Link To This Article: [Top] ©2004-2008 DVDArk.co.uk
