Clueless
Background Information: Clueless [Top] Clueless was a film directed by Amy Heckerling in 1995. Loosely based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen, the film tells the story of Cher Horowitz, a valley girl who, although happy in her somewhat self-centered world of shopping & fashion, longs to prove herself as an intellectual & do-gooder. She, along with her friend Dionne decide to give a personality make-over to a tragically unhip new girl, Tai. Things backfire, though, when Tais popularity begins to surpass Chers & she has to question what is most important in the life of a wealthy, gorgeous teenage girl. The film was co-written by comedienne Julie Brown & co-starred actors Donald Faison, Paul Rudd & Wallace Shawn. The movie was turned into a TV show in the late 1990s. Posters Of CluelessEditorial DVD Review [Top] Alicia Silverstone won everyone over with her portrayal of a Beverly Hills teen, Cher, whose penchant for helping others with their relationships & self-esteem is a cover for her own loneliness. Director Amy Heckerling made a smart, funny variation on Jane Austens novel Emma, sweetly romantic & gently satirical of 90210 social manners. The cast is unbeatable: Dan Hedaya as Chers rock-solid dad, Wallace Shawn as a geeky teacher, Paul Rudd as the boy who has always been Chers surrogate brother, & the true holder of her most secret wishes. , Tom Keogh

Heckerlings first film, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, about Los Angeles teenagers, was praised for the strong female characters played by Phoebe Cates, Jennifer Jason Leigh & others. Heckerlings next film was a parody of gangster films, Johnny Dangerously, starring Michael Keaton, Marilu Henner & Joe Piscopo, with fast talking characters familiar from 1930s screwball comedy. She directed the second of the National Lampoon vacation films, National Lampoons European Vacation with Chevy Chase & Beverly DAngelo. She again had a massive hit with Look Whos Talking, which starred John Travolta & Kirstie Alley raising a baby voiced by Bruce Willis. It was corny & many critics panned it, but it pleased audiences enough to warrant a sequel, Look Whos Talking Too, which Heckerling also directed.
