This adaptation is fantastic.

The story involves serial murders which occur in towns according to their first letter. The murders kick off in Andover, & Poirot becomes involved due to some anonymous letters. Why does it work?

In another review, I slated the one-star The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I have noticed that with these adaptations, the story line need not be exactly the same in order to make them work . What was more important, was that characters be left with the same level of complexity & intrigue as in the original novels.

And so it proves in this case. The Poirot-Hasting banter is sharp, Jackson & the other police officers are great as the detectives who draw reasonable conclusions from the available facts. Above all, the way in which the story is told is frighteningly believable! Recommended to Christie readers & non-mystery fans alike!
