Biography: Peter Ustinov [Top] Baron Peter Ustinov was the owner of the Park Hotel in Jaffa. The mansion that became the hotel was built originally for the prophet George Adams. It was later acquired by the London Society for Promoting Christianity amongst the Jews & is today a youth hostel & community centre. Biography: Carol Reed [Top] Sir Carol Reed was an English film director, winner of an Academy Award for his interpretation of the musical, Oliver!. A son of the great actor-producer Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree & his mistress May Pinney, Reed was born in Putney, London & educated at the Kings School, Canterbury. Reed served in the British Army during the Second World War, giving him many experiences which appeared in his later films. He embarked on an acting career while still in his teens, but soon went into the role of producer/director & was responsible for Kipps, The Third Man & Our Man in Havana, becoming a prime essayist of film versions of the novels of Graham Greene. From 1943 until 1947, he was married to the elegant British film star Diana Wynyard. After their divorce, he married, in 1948, the actress Penelope Dudley Ward, the elder daughter of Freda Dudley Ward, who had been a mistress of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII of the United Kingdom & Duke of Windsor. They had one son, Max & a nephew was actor Oliver Reed.

In collaboration with his wife, actress Ruth Gordon, he wrote the classic Tracy / Hepburn film comedies, the 1949 Adams Rib & the 1952 Pat & Mike, both directed by George Cukor. He wrote & staged the 1946 play Born Yesterday, which ran for 1642 performances; & the screenplay of the 1950 film adaptation. He directed the 1955 play The Diary of Anne Frank, which ran for 717 performances. He directed the 1964 musical Funny Girl, which ran for 1348 performances. He was a colleague of Thorton Wilder, who mentored him & an admirer of the work of Frank Capra. Kanin said Id rather be Capra than God, if there is a Capra. Kanin died at age 86 in New York City.
