Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car is a childrens story written by Ian Fleming for his son Caspar, with illustrations by John Burningham & was first published in 1964 by Jonathan Cape in London & Random House in New York. The story was made into a musical film Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang in 1968 with a script by Roald Dahl & songs by the Sherman Brothers. The film was directed by Ken Hughes & starred Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries & Benny Hill. Memorable songs include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Truly Scrumptious, My Old Bamboo & Toot Sweets. The location for Vulgaria was Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. A stage musical based on the book & movie was launched at the London Palladium theatre in 2002. Despite some initial problems with the mechanical flying Chitty used in the show, it has enjoyed a very successful run. The movie was referenced by United States Senator Orrin Hatch during the June 23, 2004 discussion of the Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act, comparing illegal file sharing on P2P networks, with stealing candy under the guise of it being free. This re-mastered, pan-and-scan 30th-anniversary edition of that kiddie-car caper is flawed but solid family fare. It retains a quaint charm while some of the songs, including the title tune, are quite hummable. A huge plus is Dick Van Dyke, who is extremely appealing as an eccentric inventor around the turn of the century. With nimble fingers & a unique way of looking at the world, he invents for his children a magic car that floats & flies. Or does he? The special effects are tame by todays standards, & the film is about 20 minutes too long, but its enthusiasm charms. The script was cowritten by Roald Dahl & based on the novel by Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond adventures.

Richard Wayne Van Dyke, usually credited as Dick Van Dyke, is a noted American television & movie actor. Murder as Dr Sloan in the 1990s. Van Dykes first major role was on stage in Bye Bye Birdie in 1960, for which he won a Tony Award. He then starred in his own sitcom, The Dick Van Dyke Show, which ran for five seasons – in the lead role of Rob Petrie, Van Dyke won three Emmy Awards. He slowly transitioned out of television into movie acting in Bye Bye, Birdie, What a Way to Go! and, most notably, Walt Disney s Mary Poppins, in which he played Bert, a Cockney chimney sweep & also played, in heavy disguise, the elderly owner of the bank. Van Dykes attempt at a Cockney accent was widely ridiculed, but the film also showed his versatility as a singer & dancer. Dick Van Dyke was a great admirer of Stan Laurel & even gave the eulogy at his funeral. He once met Laurel & told him he had copied a great deal from him. He said Laurel only laughed & said Ive noticed that. After the mid-1960s, Van Dyke was in a number of relatively unsuccessful movies. Posters Of Dick Van Dyke
