Did you mean Candlemas, a Christian feast day? Candlemass is a Swedish Doom metal band established in the 1980s by Leif Edling, main leader & songwriter. After Leif Edling dissolved the band Nemesis, he started his own band under the name Candlemass. The first Candlemass album was Epicus Doomicus Metallicus released in 1986, considered a milestone in the Doom metal scene. The next release was Nightfall, hailed as being one of the greatest Doom metal albums ever, with some changes in the line-up & adding a new dimension to the band. The new members were Messiah Marcolin, Lars Johansson & Jan Lindh. This line-up is considered the most important & successful in bands history. The next two albums were Ancient Dreams & Tales Of Creation. In 1990, a live album saw the light. Differences arose between the band members resulting in the Messiah Marcolins decision to leave the band. After the departure of Marcolin, Candlemass recruited vocalist Tomas Vikstrom & recorded Chapter VI.

It’s a two-disc DVD with disc 1 presenting their legendary gig at Fryshuset & disc 2 containing an 80 minute documentary spanning over their entire career.

The live gig captured in Stockholm 1990 is, with its fantastic DTS sound, in itself worth the purchase. You get absolutely ran over by an incredibly tight ‘n’ heavy band, not to mention lead guitarist Lars Johansson’s brilliant performance. All this topped with extraordinary singer/front man Messiah singing his brains out & doom dancing, as always dressed in his famous monk’s cowl.

The absolutely hilarious documentary disc contains clips from their first gig ever, the classic Dynamo Open Air appearance, the party backstage with Europe at the old Marquee, the American tours, Poland... Tons of tour clips - Solitude Aeturnus fantastic version of Well of souls, Candlemass in Sultans of doom, Jan sings Scorpions & gets spanked in the dressing room, Messiah the Destroyer in the ring with Lars, a lengthy clip from Sweden Rock & this summers mind-blowing gigs around Europe etc. etc.

This is really all you can ask for right now as a fan of Doom/Heavy Metal. And if you’re not a die hard fan of the genre this is still a great opportunity to get acquainted with “Sweden’s Kings of sonic Doom”.
