Jimi Hendrix - At Woodstock / Band Of Gypsies
Background Information: Jimi Hendrix [Top] James Marshall Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter & producer who is widely considered to be the most important electric guitarist in the history of popular music. As a guitarist, he built upon the innovations of blues stylists such as B B King, Albert King, T-Bone Walker & Muddy Waters, as well as those of R&B guitarists like Curtis Mayfield. although previous guitarists, such as The Kinks Dave Davies & The Who s Pete Townshend, had employed feedback, distortion & other special effects as sonic tools, Hendrix, due to his grounding in blues, soul music & R&B, was able to use these devices in a way that transcended their sources. He was also an accomplished songwriter whose compositions have been covered by countless artists. As a record producer & musical architect, he was one of the first to use the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas. Finally, his image as a rock star places him in the lineage of Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley & Mick Jagger. Posters Of Jimi HendrixBackground Information: Band Of Gypsies [Top] Band of Gypsys is a live album by Jimi Hendrix, released in 1970 before he died. It was the last album Hendrix himself authorized to be released. After the Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up in 1969, Jimi Hendrix played with Gypsy Suns & Rainbows, the band that he gave his famous Woodstock performance with. The band was short lived, however & he formed A Band of Gypsys with his drummer friend Buddy Miles & bassist Billy Cox. The band recorded some studio material that is seen on some posthumous releases, but the material on Band of Gypsys shows Hendrix in his element, such as the long, intricate solo on Machine Gun. He generally avoided playing some of his more popular songs Wild Thing & All Along the Watchtower & opted to play new material. All tracks written by Jimi Hendrix except Changes & We Gotta Live Together, written by Buddy Miles. Eddie Kramer - engineer, mixing, mastering, remastering, remixing. The booklet insert for the CD reissue of Band of Gypsys.
