The opening scenes of The Replacements see American football team, the Washington Sentinels, in dire straits. The players have walked out in a protest over pay at a vital point in the season, forcing the Sentinels owner to bring veteran coach Jimmy McGinty out of retirement to put together a replacement team. He assembles a group of oddballs & misfits including failed quarterback Shane Falco , a boozing Welsh brawler , a convicted former football pro, a deaf mute, a psychopathic ex-cop, a sumo wrestler & a kleptomaniac who has trouble catching the ball. It is Falcos job to pull the team together & overcome his own problems to take the Sentinels to the playoffs. Howard Deutch directs this variation on a losers-make-good storyline that runs like Police Academy on the playing field. Keanu plays the Steve Guttenberg role. Sandra Bullock clone Brooke Langton provides the all-too-predictable cheerleading love interest, while Rhys Ifans delivers light relief as the teams chain-smoking kicker.

On the DVD: The main feature is presented in letterboxed widescreen format with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound in three languages . There are optional subtitles in 20 different languages. Interactive menus are slickly designed like the yard markings on an American football field & provide access to a range of special features. As well as a theatrical trailer & commentary by director Howard Deutch, there is a 15-minute HBO special The Making of the Replacements hosted by Orlando Jones & a 10-minute Actors Guide to Football which provides a detailed look at the way the entirely authentic football sequences were planned & filmed.

Biography: Gene Hackman
[Top]
Gene Hackman is an American actor. He was born in San Bernardino, California. His parents divorced while he was a child & he therefore moved from one place to another until he settled finally in Illinois, where he lived with his grandmother. At 16 he left home to join the Marines, where he served 3 years as a radio operator. Having finished his service, he moved to New York, where he worked in several minor jobs. He then studied television production & journalism at the University of Illinois, taking advantage of the G,I. Bill. Already over 30 years old, Hackman decided to become an actor & joined the Pasadena Playhouse in California. Some times later, he moved back to New York, where he started to perform in several off-Broadway plays. Finally, in 1964, he had the offer to play on Broadway, which opened the doors to the movies. His first role was in Lilith, with Warren Beatty in the leading role. Another secondary role in a 1967 Warren Beatty movie, Bonnie & Clyde, earned him an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor. Posters Of Runaway Jury

Biography: Keanu Reeves
[Top]
Keanu Charles Reeves is a Hollywood film actor. Although currently working in the United States, Reeves is a Canadian citizen & an avid ice hockey player/fan who was his High School teams MVP. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, his first name means cool breeze over the mountains in Hawaiian. His father is Asian American of Chinese & Hawaiian descent & his mother is English. Reeves gained the notice of the critics in 1986 s Rivers Edge, but his first major film role was in 1986, in the hockey movie Youngblood, starring Rob Lowe. Reevess first popularly successful film was Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, in 1989. Indeed & perhaps unfortunately for Reeves, much of his subsequent portrayal in the press has been influenced by his comically airheaded character Ted in that film. Despite the fact that his acting has frequently been derided as wooden, Reeves has become a major box-office draw & several of his films have become extremely popular. Speed, released in 1994, was a tremendous success for Reeves, surpassed in 1999 by the sci-fi hit The Matrix. Posters Of Keanu Reeves
