The Family Man is a 2000 Brett Ratner film starring Nicolas Cage, about a man who is given a glimpse at what could have been, if he had made a different decision 15 years ago. It is similar to Its a Wonderful Life, in that it starts on Christmas Eve with a life & death situation involving an angel who tries to get the main character to take a long, earnest look at his life. Editorial DVD Review

Jack Campbell is a quintessential Wall Street shark, scoring killer deals by day & shallow escort sex by night in The Family Man. Carp all you want about this derivative premise, with its marginal stereotypes & biased embrace of domestic bliss & dirty nappies. The simple fact is, The Family Man works like a charm. Under the assured direction of Brett Ratner , this holiday crowd-pleaser offers comedy & chemistry in equal measure, making the hilarity of Jacks predicament a smooth catalyst for that rarest of film romances: the marital love story. Leoni is Cages perfect match as Jacks idealised but imperfect wife & the filmss appeal largely derives from its awareness that any life has its pleasures & pains. While it only flirts with the dark desperation that makes Its a Wonderful Life a classic predecessor, The Family Man is an irresistible what-if fantasy & even its debatable ending rides on a wave of genuine warmth & sentiment.

Nicolas Cage is an American actor. He was born Nicholas Kim Coppola in Long Beach, California, the son of August & Joy Coppola. In 1976, Cages parents divorced & he moved to Beverly Hills with his father. He is the nephew of both Francis Ford Coppola & Talia Shire. Cage changed his name early in order to try to make his own way in acting without benefiting from his uncles reputation. He chose the name Cage after the Marvel comic book hero Luke Cage, Power Man. He had a small role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, most of which ended on the cutting room floor. His next notable roles were in the 1983 movies Rumble Fish & Valley Girl, which was his breakout role. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Leaving Las Vegas. He has developed a reputation for alternating roles in action movies with more serious character-driven dramas & an occasional black comedy.
