The Kentucky Fried Movie is an American comedy film, released in 1977. It was directed by John Landis. The writers for the film were David & Jerry Zucker & Jim Abrahams, the team who would later write & direct Airplane!, Top Secret! & the Police Squad! television show & its movie spinoffs, The Naked Gun films. George Lazenby, Bill Bixby & Donald Sutherland. The movie has no unified plot; rather, it consists of numerous sketches. The skits range from poking fun at karate movies to courtroom TV shows & it also includes the semi- pornographic Catholic School Girls In Trouble skit. The movie features the talents of many former members of The Groundlings theater, as well as some from Second City. The structure of the film is a parody of drive-in movie fare of the 1970s. Thus, its primary targets are exploitation films, including early chop-socky movies such as Enter the Dragon & the longest & most sustained parody, women-in-prison movies & sex comedies, inane B-movie comedies & disaster movies.

Twenty years before the Farrelly Brothers turned raunch into acceptable film comedy, the team of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams & Jerry Zucker exploited it first. The college threesome made it big with Airplane in 1980, but this 1977 cinematic version of their live theatre show was the ground zero for their talents. Kentucky Fried Movie is a mish-mash of sketches, fake commercials, & parodies with no central theme, except their crudeness & laugh-out-loud humour. Highlights include a commercial for Scot Free, a board game based on the Kennedy assassination conspiracy; The Wonderful World of Sex, in which a couple goes through foreplay with a self-help narrator instructing them step-by-step; & a 20-minute spoof of Bruce Lee films entitled A Fistful of Yen. Brazen to a fault, the movie will reach for any punchline, no matter how crude Directed by then-unknown John Landis on a shoestring budget, the film has aged. But crassness, when this funny, is forever.

Donald Sutherland is a Canadian actor. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick & studied in Toronto at Victoria College where he was expelled from residence for throwing a sink out the window. He got his start at age 14 at CBC Radio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then went to London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, then he started gaining some popularity as an actor in horror films & thrillers. Sutherlands great success arrived however with The Dirty Dozen & Robert Altman s M*A*S*H. With Jane Fonda he co-produced FTA. a movie containing quite explicit messages against the Vietnam War. Two of his best performances were displayed in Ordinary People & Eye of the Needle. He played Norman Bethune, Canadian physician & humanitarian & a national hero in China, in two separate biographical films more than ten years apart. He was formerly married to Shirley Douglas, an actress & the daughter of Canadian democratic socialist / social democratic statesman Tommy Douglas. George Robert Lazenby is an Australian actor best known for portraying James Bond in the 1969 film, On Her Majestys Secret Service. // George Lazenby was born in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia & served in the Australian Army Special forces & as a military unarmed combat instructor. He moved to London in 1964 ; working as a car salesman & as a model, then as an actor in advertising, by 1968, he was the highest-paid model in the world ; he also was the European Marlboro Man. In the 1970s he worked in Hong Kong with Bruce Lee ; a luncheon meeting with Lee & Raymond Chow to discuss a movie project collapsed, with Lees sudden death. Despite having starred in On Her Majestys Secret Service & The Kentucky Fried Movie, the combined gross earnings of which exceeded $100 million worldwide in the 1970s, Lazenbys career never flourished. John Landis is a movie actor, director, writer & producer. His career began as a teenager, working as a mailboy at 20th Century Fox. He starred in Schlock, which he also wrote & directed, as well as The Kentucky Fried Movie & National Lampoons Animal House. With Dan Aykroyd he wrote & directed Blues Brothers & An American Werewolf in London. The Movie. Actor Vic Morrow was decapitated & two child extras, My-ca Dinh Le & Renee Shin-Ye Chen, were killed by a helicopter during the filming of Twilight Zone. The parents of the children sued. At trial, prosecutors attempted to show that Landis was reckless & that he had violated laws relating to child actors by not telling their parents & others about the childrens proximity to explosives & helicopters & the hours they could work. He was also accused of negligence in his directions to the crew regarding the use of the helicopter. Landis was acquitted.
