Focus is based on Arthur Millers novel.Set in New York during WW2 It is a strange tale of a very ordinary man who works in an office. The improbable twist is when he starts wearing glasses & is then suspected of being jewish. From here on the story describes how thw characters life slides out of control despite a happy marriage to Gertrude played by Laura Dern. The protagonist is played well by William H Macy. The slightly Hopperesque feel to the sets adds to the feeling of menace & paranoia.

Essentially this is a parable about prejudice.....what happens when good men stand back when faced with evil.Miller opts for an optimistic ending which some may find less than convincing. Not the greatest film but thought provoking & delivered with style\

Biography: William H Macy
[Top]
William Hall Macy is an actor, teacher & director, in theatre, film & television. He was born in Miami, Florida & grew up in Georgia & Maryland. After graduating from Allegany High School in Cumberland, Maryland, he entered Bethany College to study veterinary medicine. By his own admission a wretched student, he transferred to Goddard College & got involved in theatre. It was at Goddard that he met the playwright David Mamet, who was only a couple of years older than he was. Macy later came to consider Mamet the greatest writer of our time. He moved to Chicago after graduating in 1971 & got a job as a bartender to pay the rent. Within a year he & Mamet, among others, founded the successful St. Nicholas Theater Company, where Macy originated roles in a number of Mamets plays, such as American Buffalo & The Water Engine. After spending some time in Los Angeles, he moved to New York in 1980. While living there he had roles in over fifty off-Broadway & Broadway plays. Posters Of Focus
