Marilyn Manson, eponymous band of the lead singer of the same name, is an American industrial rock outfit, based in Hollywood, California. As a band, Marilyn Manson got their start in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1990 as Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. Marilyn Mansons early presentation had a more comic-bookish, Scooby Doo -style than the dark, brooding style of their later image. The band received little attention outside Florida until they were noticed by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. Marilyn Mansons first CD, Portrait of an American Family was released on Reznor s Nothing Records label. The bands lineup has changed several times since its inception, with the exception of Manson himself. Until 1996, the name of each band member was created by combining the first name of a female pop culture icon & the last name of a serial killer ; Mansons name a combination of the names of Marilyn Monroe & cult leader Charles Manson. The members of the band dress in often bizarre costumes & have developed a devoted fan base both for their music & their sometimes shocking behavior. I smiled as DVD finally reached the Manson camp. Ill keep this review simple as any flare for the dramatic can be viewed instead on the DVD.
The DVD experience resembles conjoined-twins. On the left sits an on-stage montage footage. Each live audio track is blurred with a flickering image set of various live visuals that confuse the viewer. The set list is true to the concert, erupting from the subdued COUNT TO SIX AND DIE into the classic, volcanic IRRESPONSIBLE HATE ANTHEM & REFLECTING GOD. Where would we be without those & thats just the start. Trawl through the guts of FIGHT SONG, DOPE SHOW,SWEET DREAMS & then wrench the volume up harder for ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR & let those hairs on your neck shiver!
After the remnants of BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, ASTONISHING PANORAMA & LUNCHBOX withdraw into the DVD.. take a break then meet the other twin: Behind the Tour-30 minutes of Manson seduction.
Follow the band on their visits to Russia, Tokyo, London & reminise with former members Twiggy & J5 . Scenes from the J5 birthday, Mansons backstage surgery & Pogo acting his hyperactive self, throws you to the centre of their world.
If you sweated at the concert or you simply wish for a taste of the sour wine then buy this DVD. This will leave you searching for the next tour dates!
