Steve Vai, born Steven Siro Vai, is an American guitarist & composer, born June 6th, 1960 in Long Island, New York. Vai is best known for his self-composed, performed & produced guitar instrumental music, but he has also played on the recordings of several other rock acts. Steve Vai made his name playing stunt guitar with the legendary rock performer, composer, music producer & publishing mogul Frank Zappa. In the early 80s he replaced Yngwie Malmsteen as lead guitarist in Graham Bonnett s Alcatrazz. Then he joined former Van Halen front man David Lee Roth s group to record the albums Eat em & Smile & Skyscraper. Vai also stepped into guitarist Adrian Vandenberg s shoes to record with British rock legends Whitesnake shortly before recording was due to begin for the album Slip of the Tongue. Steve Vai continues to tour regularly, both with his own group & with his one time teacher & fellow Grammy award winning guitar instrumentalist friend Joe Satriani.
Consumer DVD Review [Top] The moment I put this DVD into the player, & watched the opener ShyBoy, I knew I was in for a treat. Vai is a totally wacky guy & puts100% into the show, hes an incredible entertainer. From frequent Costumechanges to wacky headsets & lazers on his fingers, & an array of coolguitars - vai spares nothing in this DVD & it shows. He has an amazingband, seeing him & bassist billy Sheehan together is amazing, & histom foolery with guitarist Tony MacAlpine is amusing & amazing at thesame time! The DVD has all the vai favs plus a few hendrix covers. Thecamera work is... intereseting in places but in no way compromises theDVD, in fact it compliments the sometimes insane guitar stunts vai pullsoff. In short, if youre a vai fan you NEED this - & to any one whois a fan of guitar should pick this up & see what can really be done ona guitar!
The Extras are plentiful & very amusing in places, & the audiocometary by Steve & the band is hilarious! In all you get about 3.5hours concert footage & half an hour of extras.
