The 18th century, with its frills & bawds, was ideal territory for the Carry On team: Carry On Dick is one of the few of the series where one notices the quality of the art direction in intervals between terrible old Talbot Rothwell jokes & the creaking of standard farce moments. Captain Fancy is sent to the remote village of Upper Denture to arrest Big Dick Turpin & makes the mistake of confiding in the local Rector, the Reverend Flasher . Dick has troubles of his own: his liaison with his housemaid & henchperson Harriet is perpetually interrupted by his amorous housekeeper . Meanwhile, Joan Sims struts around the plot as the proprietor of a touring show of scantily clad young women. This is not one of the best of the series, a certain mean-spiritedness creeps in to the humour as does the self-conscious awareness that 1974 was a date a little late for some of the more sexist jokes, but any film with Kenneth Williams discussing satin coats with his tailor has something going for it.

Barbara Windsor, is a British actress, born Barbara-Ann Deeks in London. Her first film appearance was in The Belles of St. Trinians & then later came to prominence in the British film Sparrows Cant Sing garnering a Bafta nomination for Best British Film Actress. She then went on to become a star with her saucy portrayals of a good time girl in some 9 Carry On films & several TV specials, between 1964 & 1978. She also starred on Broadway in the play Oh, What a Lovely War & received a 1968 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. After a gradual fall from the top, which also saw her husband, Ronnie Knight, flee to Spain on Bank robbery charges, she considered quitting acting. However in 1994 she was offered the plum role of Peggy Mitchell in the popular BBC drama series EastEnders, this saw her regain past glories & come to be seen as something of a British Institution. After a debilitating case of the Epstein-Barr virus saw her take a year long absence from the screen in 2003, she is due back in the spring of 2004.
