Yoga Dance
Background Information: Yoga Dance [Top]
Consumer DVD Review [Top] This DVD is a good effort by presenter Susan Fulton, but its definitely lacking in certain areas.
There are 3 sections on the DVD- the Standing sequence, Floor sequence & Yoga Dance. Basically the first two are a preparation for the third. In the first two sections, Susan & a friend go through some moves based around yoga, although some have no relevance to yoga whatsoever - such as swinging your hips. There is no real instruction on posture or tips for when youre in the pose although there would have been plenty of time for this as the routines are quite slow & very repetitive. Then we move onto the third section - dance. This is basically a compilation of the moves in the previous sections, all strung together in a sequence to create a dance. This was a far cry from what I imagined a fusion of yoga & dance to be . The dance routine wasnt particularly inspiring, & was the sort of dance one might expect to find accompanying a pop video- although it was quite flowing & languid, it also included moves such as slapping the floor & swinging your hips in a very pop dancer type manner. Overall, I think this was a good idea, but needed more thought & fine-tuning behind it- for example, a true yoga floor routine would not start with a nice little breathing exercise followed immediately by a wide-angled leg stretch as Susan does, because the muscles & joints would not be sufficiently warmed up to approach this posture at that point. Also, I think one would soon tire of this DVD once you had mastered the dance, as there is nothing to progress onto after that. Biography: David Morgan [Top]
