Background Information: The Lucy Show

The Lucy Show was Lucille Ball s followup show to I Love Lucy. It began in 1962 & ran until 1974. The premise & the cast changed frequently, with only Gale Gordon lasting the run of the show. From time to time, Vivian Vance, Lucie Arnaz & Desi Arnaz Jr. appeared. The show began with Lucille Ball as Lucy Carmichael, a widow with two children Chris & Jerry, living in Danfield, Connecticut, sharing her home with divorced friend Vivian Bagley & her son, Sherman. Lucy went to work for Mr. Mooney at the local bank. In 1965, Lucy & Jerry Carmichael & Mr. Mooney moved to California & the Bagleys only visited from time to time. Lucys daughter Chris went away to college & was never mentioned again. Additionally, Jerry was shipped off to a military academy,and his character was very rarely referred to in future episodes .Lucy gained a new best friend in Mary Jane Lewis. In 1968 the show was renamed Heres Lucy & the show changed. Lucy now lived in Los Angeles, California & was named Lucy Carter. She now had two children played by her real-life children.
Biography: Desi Arnaz

Desi Arnaz was a Cuban born musician, actor, comedian & television producer. He was born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha, III in Santiago, Cuba, to a wealthy family. After a 1933 revolution, Arnaz & his parents fled to Miami, Florida. He worked at different odd jobs to help support the family, including cleaning out bird cages. He began his career as a professional musician in 1936, playing guitar & percussion for a Latin orchestra. He then took a pay cut to work in New York City for Xavier Cugat, his mentor. Arnaz returned to Miami six months later to lead his own combo. It was there he introduced the Conga Line to American audiences, which soon became a national rage. He formed his own orchestra & returned to New York. Arnaz was also a successful recording artist, beginning in 1937 & had a hit with the voodoo-flavored Babalu, his signature song, which was recorded at RCA Victor. In 1939, he starred on Broadway in the successful musical Too Many Girls. He then went to Hollywood to appear in the 1940 movie version at RKO, which starred actress & comedienne, Lucille Ball. Lucille Desirée Ball was an American actress, comedian & star of I Love Lucy. A B-grade movie star of the 1940s, she became one of the best & most popular stars in television history. She was born in Jamestown, New York & after her father died, was raised by her working mother & grandparents. She moved to New York City to become an actress & had some success as a fashion model & chorus girl. She moved to Hollywood in 1933 to appear in films. She appeared in many small movie roles in the 1930s as a contract player for RKO. She switched to MGM in the 1940s, but never achieved great success in films. She was known in many Hollywood circles as the B-Movie queen, sharing the royalty honor with Macdonald Carey, who was designated as her king. In 1948, she was cast as a wacky wife in My Favorite Husband, a radio program. The program was successful & CBS asked her to develop it as a television program. Biography: Marc Daniels

Marc Daniels was a television director from Pennsylvania. He started in 1947 with an episode of Kraft Television Theatre titled Starfish. He primarily did drama & comedy. Projects he was most involved in include Gunsmoke, Fame, Alice & Hogans Heroes. The Original Series & writing an episode of the animated series. He died of heart failure in 1989.

Biography: William Asher

William Asher is an American producer, director & writer. Born in New York City, his mother was actress Lillian Bonner & his father was producer E,M. Asher. His more famous works includes directing episodes of The Colgate Comedy Hour, I Love Lucy, Our Miss Brooks, General Electric Theater, Make Room for Daddy, December Bride, The Dinah Shore Chevy Show, The Twilight Zone, The Patty Duke Show, Gidget, The Dukes of Hazzard & Private Benjamin. In addition to the popular I Love Lucy show, Asher produced & directed Bewitched, which ran for eight years & still runs in syndication today. He married the shows star, Elizabeth Montgomery in 1963. His films include writing & directing the popular beach movies staring Annette Funicello & Frankie Avalon - Muscle Beach Party, Bikini Beach & Beach Blanket Bingo. His family continues on in show business. His son, John Mallory Asher starred in Weird Science & then directed Hilary Swank in Kounterfeit. He continued his directorial endeavors with Diamonds, starring Kirk Douglas, Dan Akroyd, Lauren Bacall & Jenny McCarthy.
