A Kid Called Danger
Background Information: A Kid Called Danger [Top]
Consumer DVD Review [Top] Dane is a 13-year-old who constantly gets himself into trouble. His dad is a cop, & he seems intent on getting into even more danger by investigating crimes the police can’t solve.
While most young adults attending college are struggling over what they want to do with the rest of their lives, thirteen year old Dane “Danger” McQuire already has it all figured out. Ever since he can remember, Dane has wanted to be a police officer, & he’s been antsy for the day he can book the criminals instead of just watching from the sidelines. While Dane knows about the ups & downs of being a cop after growing up around the lifestyle, no number of stakeouts could prepare him for the case he finds himself up against. Eager to be a big league player, Dane also knows that everyone has to start somewhere. So, he has managed to satisfy his need to squelch the bad guys by doing small time gigs at his school. But the detective inside gets the best of him when his path crosses with a presumed-to-be-dead jewel thief. Before long, Dane’s instincts kick in, & he decides to take the job by enlisting the help of a top-notch, pint-sized crew. If successful, the operation could not only mean turning over a dangerous criminal, but also uncovering millions of dollars in jewels. Most of A Kid Called Danger revels in the hard to believe, but still proves to be an exciting escape for kids who oftentimes resent being treated like children. Most adults fail to acknowledge such a distinction, & kids are pigeon holed by their age, not their abilities. While most of the film is built upon impossible & implausible premises, it is done in such a way that kids can find an everyday hero all their own in Danger Dane. The “danger” in Dane, however, is that after a while, the story seems as if it was scripted for adults, & merely cast with kids. At no point is there a huge revelation as to how young the guys are. It’s one thing to have a crew of super kids beating the odds, but it is another entirely to expect the viewer to believe it’s no big job & thus, all in a day’s work. And when he’s not hunting the bad guy, Dane even manages to score a love interest in his niece, Kristi . It’s a plot more appropriate for actors like Mel Gibson or Tom Cruise, but instead it is aimed at the Disney set. Nonetheless, A Kid Called Danger is a good, clean movie for prepubescent kids, training for grown up flicks. Link To This Article: [Top] ©2004-2008 DVDArk.co.uk
