Biography: Gordon MacDonald
[Top]
Sir Gordon MacDonald was Newfoundland s final British governor as well as the last chairman of the Commission of Government serving from 1946 until the colony joined confederation in 1949 & became a province of Canada. MacDonald was a Member of Parliament in Britain from 1929 to 1942 & then served as a regional controller for the Ministry of Fuel & Power in Wales until his appointment to Newfoundland in 1946. As governor, MacDonald openly campaigned for confederation making him unpopular with those Newfoundlanders who opposed joining Canada. Anti-confederates cited MacDonalds interference in arguments to throw out the 1948 referendum results on joining Canada. MacDonald left the island upon its entry to Canada in 1949. Two days after his departure, a congratulatory poem was published in The Evening Telegram. The first letter of each line spelled out THE BASTARD. After returning to Britain, MacDonald was elevated to the House of Lords as Baron Gwaenysgor.

Biography: Frank Henenlotter
[Top]
Frank Henenlotter, born 1950, is an American screenwriter, director & film historian. He is known primarily for his horror-comedies of the 1980s & early 90s. Henelotters films were inspired by the exploitation & sexploitation films he loved, the kind which played on 42nd Street in New York City in the 1960s & 70s. His films were low-budget & filled with gore & special-effects. They were considered by many to be B-movies, but they also turned the conventions of these films upon themselves. Although many of his films are somewhat obscure, his most well-known are Basket Case, Brain Damage & Frankenhooker. Henenlotter has also collected many old low-budget sexploitation & exploitation films, such as the camp classic, The Curious Dr Humpp. Some films from his collection are available on Something Weird Video.
