Consumer DVD Review [Top] This is an excellent, somewhat abstract film. We meet a character called The kid played by the excellent Sam rockwell, who lives in half a trailer in the middle of a forest, off the grid as he puts it.He meets Al , when his car breaks down.Al is suffering from a mid-life crisis. The two become friends, although Al is at first very reluctant & just wants to get away from the wierd kid. There is an interesting chemistry between John & Sam, & as the story develops, The kid begins to have an influence over Al, who was originally quite repressed & responsible - he now starts to shoot glass windows & paint cans at the factory where he works. The film is a real showcase for the talented Sam rockwell - this is one of his early performances, & a real breakthrough. He already posesses that quirky charisma, and screen presence later to be seen in such films as Green Mile, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, & the critically aclaimed Lawn Dogs. He really gets into his characters wierd & uncoventional behaviour. This is a great film, funny, a must for Sam Rockwell fans, & people who love quirky character based film. Sam rockwell you rock!!

Biography: Tom DiCillo [Top] Tom DiCillo is an American film director, screenwriter & cinematographer born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1954. He studied filmmaking at New York University s Film School, subsequently working as an actor, then cinematographer, before making his own films. He received acclaim for his satire of independent film-making Living in Oblivion. This 1995 black comedy, itself a low-budget independent film, features Steve Buscemi as a director driven to near-madness by his cast & crew, including a vain Hollywood actor rumoured to be based on Brad Pitt - who had himself appeared, as a then-unknown actor, in Johnny Suede. Describing the inspiration for & origin of Living in Oblivion in an interview with Salon magazine, DiCillo has said that making a movie is one of the most tedious, boring, painful experiences - & thats just when something goes right.
